The 34th Sakka Exhibition (Japan Bonsai Artists Association)
Date:Fri. April 4 ~ Wed. April 23, 2025
Place:Lobby, Collection Gallery
We at the Omiya Bonsai Art Museum are proud to host the 34th Sakka Exhibition as part of the celebrations for the 100th anniversary of the Omiya Bonsai Village.
This exhibition is held in collaboration with the Japan Bonsai Artists Association.
The Japan Bonsai Artists Association, founded in 1991 is constantly furthering bonsai artistically, socially, and internationally while raising up and working closely with bonsai artists to foster a sense of comradery between bonsai artists.
The Omiya Bonsai Art Museum has hosted the Sakka Exhibition every year since 2011, starting with the 20th Sakka Exhibition.
As the Bonsai Master of Seiko-en Bonsai Garden in the Omiya Bonsai Village, Tomio Yamada is also Chairman of the Japan Bonsai Artists Association, this exhibition will be hosted as part of the 100th anniversary of the Omiya Bonsai Village.
Exhibition items will include bonsai from famous bonsai artists Uhaku Sudo of Chikufu-en, Kunio Kobayashi of Shunkaen, and Tomio Yamada from Seiko-en. The bonsai from these artists will be fully decorated in the museum’s zashiki rooms, complete with a perfect balance of a main bonsai, a companion piece, and a hanging scroll.
Recently bonsai decoration, known as kazari, has been gaining more attention internationally. Please pay close attention to the profound vistas one can see expressed throughout our zashiki rooms.
As a commemorative display during this exhibition, Master Yamada will create a three-piece display using a zelkova, the official tree of Saitama City and Saitama Prefecture, in the hopes that it will connect bonsai culture to the past, present, and future.
