真柏　銘寿雲　A-007
樹形：模様木／推定樹齢：800年
脇床：
真柏の中でも名品として知られている本作は、幹から枝の大部分をしめている、白いシャリを大きな見どころとしている。弧を描いたシャリが折り重なった、湧き上がる雲を想わせる造型から、「寿雲」という銘が付けられている。

Japanese Juniper named Juun
Style: Moyogi (Curved Trunk) ／ Estimated Age: 800 Years
Side Alcove:
The shari, dead white wood, which forms a majority of the trunk as it flows to the branches, makes this Japanese juniper revered amongst bonsai enthusiasts. Juun, which means “festive cloud”, got its name from how its curved shari resembles a rising cloud.

アメリカ蔦
樹形：懸崖
断崖に自生する木の姿を見立てた「懸崖」の本作は、北米東南部やメキシコを原産地とするブドウ科ツタ属の蔓植物。日本には大正初期頃に渡来したとされている。この季節は、真紅に色付いた艶やかな葉が見どころ。

Virginia Creeper
Style: Kengai (Cascade)
The Virginia creeper is a vine of the grape family native to the southeastern part of North America and Mexico. It was raised into the cascade style to appear like it it growing off a high cliff. This species is said to have been introduced to Japan during the early Taisho period (1912-1926). It stands out in this season with its vivid red foliage.

もみじ（出猩々）　A-047
樹形：多幹／推定樹齢：80年
掛軸：榊原文翠「散紅葉」E-090
5本の幹が立ち上がった姿が、さわやかな印象を与える一点。深い赤色を意味する「猩々緋（しょうじょうひ）」にちなんだ品種名の本樹は、春先に鮮やかな緋色の若葉を広げることで知られる。秋の深まりとともに、再び葉は赤く染まり、一年に二度、緋色の姿を楽しめる品種である。

Japanese Maple (Deshojo)
Style: Ta-kan (MultipleTrunk) ／ Estimated Age: 80 Years
Hanging Scroll: Fall Leaves in Fall (Painting by Sakakibara Bunsui)E-090
With five trunks standing upright, this bonsai gives the viewer a refreshing feeling. The name of this breed of Japanese maple, deshojo, means deep red and was given to the breed because of the deep red leaves it bears from early spring. As fall deepens, the foliage turns red again, meaning that one can enjoy the scarlet form of this variety of maple twice every year.

真弓
樹形：半懸崖
添え：ヤクシマイトススキとナンバンギセルの寄せ植え
ニシキギの一種である真弓を、半懸崖の形状に仕立てた作。初夏に淡い緑色の花を咲かせ、小さな身を結ぶ。この季節、果実は柔らかな赤色に染まる。秋の深まりとともに果実が割れ、真紅の種（仮種皮）が顔をのぞかせる。

Hamilton’s Spindletree
Style: Han-Kengai (Semi Cascade)
Companion Piece: Yakushima-Itosusuki, Japanese Silver Grass /Nanbangiseru,　Indian Broomrape (Group Planting)
This bonsai, tailored in the semi cascade style, is a variety of spindle tree named mayumi in Japanese. After blooming with pale green flowers in early summer, it bears small fruits. At this time of year, the color of its fruits transforms into a soft red color. As the autumn deepens these fruit will begin to break open, revealing the red seeds (arils) hidden within.

瀬田川石　C-060
採石地：滋賀県瀬田川流域
本品は、滋賀県の瀬田川流域で採取された。起伏をもった形状が、大小二つの峰をもつ山の姿を想像させる一点である。細かな溝を走らせた肌は、かすかに金色の光沢を放っており、その美しさが本品の大きな見どころとなっている。

Mountain Suiseki-stone
Collected Area: Seta River, Shiga Pref.
This stone was taken from the Seta river in Shiga Prefecture. The undulating form of this piece brings to mind the image of a mountain with two ridges of different sizes. A main highlight of this piece is the beauty found in its grooved surface, which radiates with a faintly gold luster.

樹形：懸崖／推定樹齢：150年
添え：コガネシダとヤブコウジ寄せ植え
名品真柏の採取地として知られ、細かく小さな葉性を特徴とする、新潟県糸魚川市産とみられる真柏盆栽。根元から板状になって絡み合い、ねじれ曲がるシャリの躍動感や、ジンと化した細かな枝、糸魚川真柏ならではの葉の質感が本作品の見どころ。

Japanese juniper
Style: Kengai (Cascade) ／ Estimated Age: 150 Years
Companion piece: Kogane-shida, Woodsia macrochlaena/ Yabukoji, Japanese Ardisia (Group Planting)
Due to the delicate appearance of the needles, this juniper bonsai appears to have been collected from Itoigawa City in Niigata Prefecture, home to many famous juniper bonsai. What makes this piece special are the white trunk that twists and turns as it rises from the root base, the fine branches that have become jin, and finally, the unique texture of the leaves that you find on Itoigawa junipers.

白泥葡萄栗鼠図長方鉢　B-137
作陶地：中国／製作年代：不明
用土中の鉄分含有量が少ないために、焼成した際にわずかに黄色みを帯びた白色となることから、「白泥」と呼ばれる泥物の鉢。本品の胴部前面には、色泥による葡萄と栗鼠の図が描かれている。葡萄と栗鼠は、豊穣を意味する吉祥文様として知られており、様々な器物などに使われている。

White Rectangular Bonsai Pot with a Grapevine and Squirrel Design
Location: China
This type of pot is called hakudei, meaning “white clay”, due to how it turns white with a yellowish tint during the ceramic firing process. This happens due to the small iron content contained within the clay used. A picture of a grapevine and squirrels is depicted on the front of this pot. This vine and squirrel design is said to bring about a bountiful harvest. As such, this type of design is used in a wide variety of ornaments

欅　A-114
樹形：箒づくり／推定樹齢：120年
すっくと立ち上がった幹の先から枝を放射状に仕立てた姿は、「箒（ほうき）づくり」と呼ばれる欅に特徴的な人工樹形である。四方に伸びた根と太幹が安定感を生み出し、こんもりと葉を茂らせた大樹をそのまま盆上に写し取ったような一鉢である。

Japanese Zelkova
Style: Hōki-zukuri (Broom) ／ Estimated Age: 120 Years
The foliage at the top of this straight zelkova tree has been tailored to radiate out in a style of bonsai called hōki-zukuri, or “broom style”. This artificial style of bonsai is often seen in Zelkova trees. A sense of stability is created from its sprawling roots and thick trunk. This, combined with its dense leaves, give off the feel of a large tree in the summer.

西洋鎌柄
バラ科アロニア属の落葉低木。日本の鎌柄（カマツカ）に似ていることから、「セイヨウカマツカ」と呼ばれる。可憐な白い花と、真っ赤に熟す果実が見どころ。この時季は、細い枝に赤い実を散らした姿が、愛らしい印象を与えている。

Red Chokeberry
The red chokeberry is a type of deciduous shrub in the rose family. It resembles the kamatsuka, which is native to Japan, so it is often called the “Western kamatsuka” in Japan. It boasts dainty white flowers and ripe, red berries. At this time of year it gives off a refreshing aura with how it scatters and spreads the faintly colored berries from its thin branches in preparation for autumn.

【作家のことば】
古木で細幹の山採りの樹を長年丹精し、45年程になりましたので、この度出展となりました。山里の静寂さと佇まいを強調した作品です。五葉松の美しい景色と個性的な枝ぶりなど、創り方を工夫しています。

【A Word from the Artist】
I have spent around 45 years working hard on this old, thin tree that was taken from the mountains(yama-dori), so I have decided to display it at this exhibition. This piece emphasizes the tranquility and atmosphere of a mountain village. I have been quite creative in the process of raising this bonsai to express the vista of a gorgeous white pine and to create the unique shape in its branches.

【作家のことば】
縁あって入手した双幹の五葉松です。最初はかなり弱った状態で、枝もいくつか枯れていましたが、足元からの幹の曲がりの具合がとても繊細で、子気味よく気に入っています。今、その流れを生かしながら育てています。もう数年樹勢がのってくれば、深みを増してくれると思います。

【A Word from the Artist】
I acquired this twin-trunk Japanese white pine through personal connections. It was fairly weak when I first got it; a number of the branches were dead. Despite this, I thought it was charming due to the subtle curves in its trunk. I am utilizing this movement as I am tailoring it. By growing it out for a few more years, I think it will have more depth.

【作家のことば】
盆栽と共に６２年。盆栽作品の境地は盆栽の心であり、作品の霊魂であり、これこそが私の人生のすべてです。そして我が心の師の教訓「而今（にこん）の山水、古仏の道現成（どうげんじょう）なり」（道元禅師「正法眼蔵」）を得て、これから私が盆栽と向合い、ともに生きる道を発見した想いがします。感謝。

【A Word from the Artist】
I have spent 62 years together with bonsai. The essence of a bonsai art piece is in the heart of its bonsai, which is also the soul of the piece. This is everything to me. I hope to be able to find a way to continue to walk alongside bonsai, taking advice from a teaching that my dear teacher would say, “these mountains and waters of the present are the expression of the old buddhas” (originally by Zen Master Dōgen). I am filled with gratitude.

推定樹齢：120年／鉢：撫角長方鉢／添え：八瀬石
【作家のことば】
この樹は20年ほど前に幹が捻転する真柏らしさに魅力を感じて求めました。依頼、持ち崩す寸前のところで小林國雄先生率いる春花園に指導を受け、今に至ります。枝葉が増えても、樹冠へ抜けていく屈曲した動きを維持できるよう、空間を設けながら作ることが課題です。

【A Word from the Artist】
I desired to work on this tree around 20 years ago when I was charmed by its juniper ways through how its trunk twists. Since then, I have been able to salvage it from the brink of ruin through the support of Shunka-en Bonsai Garden, led by Kunio Kobayashi Sensei, which has to the current appearance of the bonsai. I am currently aiming to create more space in this piece by increasing the amount of foliage and branches on the tree while also maintaining its curved shape that bursts out through its canopy.

推定樹齢：100年／白交趾楕円鉢／添え：ヒメフウチソウ
【作家のことば】
かつては三幹の松であったのを、双幹に仕立て直して楽しむことにしました。中品の大きさですが、鉢上げしてから歳月を経たことによって景色が大きく感じられる姿になっています。山採りらしい自然の味わいを残している盆栽です。

【A Word from the Artist】
I decided to have fun with this piece, turning it from a sankan (triple-trunk) bonsai into a sokan (twin-trunk) bonsai. While it is only a medium -sized bonsai, it gives off the appearance of a large tree as it has been a long time since it was put into a pot. It still seems to possess a natural feel, as many yamadori (meaning a tree that was taken from the wild) trees do.

明治時代に山採りされた五葉松で、大変に個性的な幹模様をしています。最近ではなかなか見られない、枯淡で芸術的な作品といえるでしょう。全体の大きさと葉性も良く、長年の丹精がうかがえます。

【A Word from the Artist】
This Japanese white pine is a yamadori that was taken from the wild during the Meiji period (1868-1912). It has an exceptionally unique shape to its trunk. It has turned into an artistic piece with elegance in its simplicity, which is not something you see with many bonsai these days. The overall size of the tree and the condition of the leaves are good. You can tell many years of blood, sweat, and tears were poured into this piece.

中品ながら、鉢に植えてから歳月を経た盆栽です。今年の夏は厳しい暑さで培養も大変でしたが、秋の紅葉を楽しみにしています。また、根元に力をためた個性的な姿をしているため、冬の寒樹の姿では、一変する世界を感じます。

【A Word from the Artist】
It has been several years since it was placed into a pot despite it only being a medium-sized bonsai. The heat this summer was intense so it made it hard to look after, but I am looking forward to seeing its autumn colors. Also, as it has a very unique form with a lot of power towards its root base, during winter it will give off an entirely different impression.

樹形：模様木／推定樹齢：800年
脇床：
真柏の中でも名品として知られている本作は、幹から枝の大部分をしめている、白いシャリを大きな見どころとしている。弧を描いたシャリが折り重なった、湧き上がる雲を想わせる造型から、「寿雲」という銘が付けられている。

Japanese Juniper named Juun
Style: Moyogi (Curved Trunk) ／ Estimated Age: 800 Years
Side Alcove:
The shari, dead white wood, which forms a majority of the trunk as it flows to the branches, makes this Japanese juniper revered amongst bonsai enthusiasts. Juun, which means “festive cloud”, got its name from how its curved shari resembles a rising cloud.

樹形：懸崖
断崖に自生する木の姿を見立てた「懸崖」の本作は、北米東南部やメキシコを原産地とするブドウ科ツタ属の蔓植物。日本には大正初期頃に渡来したとされている。この季節は、真紅に色付いた艶やかな葉が見どころ。

Virginia Creeper
Style: Kengai (Cascade)
The Virginia creeper is a vine of the grape family native to the southeastern part of North America and Mexico. It was raised into the cascade style to appear like it it growing off a high cliff. This species is said to have been introduced to Japan during the early Taisho period (1912-1926). It stands out in this season with its vivid red foliage.

掛軸：榊原文翠「散紅葉」E-090
5本の幹が立ち上がった姿が、さわやかな印象を与える一点。深い赤色を意味する「猩々緋（しょうじょうひ）」にちなんだ品種名の本樹は、春先に鮮やかな緋色の若葉を広げることで知られる。秋の深まりとともに、再び葉は赤く染まり、一年に二度、緋色の姿を楽しめる品種である。

With five trunks standing upright, this bonsai gives the viewer a refreshing feeling. The name of this breed of Japanese maple, deshojo, means deep red and was given to the breed because of the deep red leaves it bears from early spring. As fall deepens, the foliage turns red again, meaning that one can enjoy the scarlet form of this variety of maple twice every year.

樹形：半懸崖
添え：ヤクシマイトススキとナンバンギセルの寄せ植え
ニシキギの一種である真弓を、半懸崖の形状に仕立てた作。初夏に淡い緑色の花を咲かせ、小さな身を結ぶ。この季節、果実は柔らかな赤色に染まる。秋の深まりとともに果実が割れ、真紅の種（仮種皮）が顔をのぞかせる。

Hamilton’s Spindletree
Style: Han-Kengai (Semi Cascade)
Companion Piece: Yakushima-Itosusuki, Japanese Silver Grass /Nanbangiseru,　Indian Broomrape (Group Planting)
This bonsai, tailored in the semi cascade style, is a variety of spindle tree named mayumi in Japanese. After blooming with pale green flowers in early summer, it bears small fruits. At this time of year, the color of its fruits transforms into a soft red color. As the autumn deepens these fruit will begin to break open, revealing the red seeds (arils) hidden within.

採石地：滋賀県瀬田川流域
本品は、滋賀県の瀬田川流域で採取された。起伏をもった形状が、大小二つの峰をもつ山の姿を想像させる一点である。細かな溝を走らせた肌は、かすかに金色の光沢を放っており、その美しさが本品の大きな見どころとなっている。

Mountain Suiseki-stone
Collected Area: Seta River, Shiga Pref.
This stone was taken from the Seta river in Shiga Prefecture. The undulating form of this piece brings to mind the image of a mountain with two ridges of different sizes. A main highlight of this piece is the beauty found in its grooved surface, which radiates with a faintly gold luster.

名品真柏の採取地として知られ、細かく小さな葉性を特徴とする、新潟県糸魚川市産とみられる真柏盆栽。根元から板状になって絡み合い、ねじれ曲がるシャリの躍動感や、ジンと化した細かな枝、糸魚川真柏ならではの葉の質感が本作品の見どころ。

Due to the delicate appearance of the needles, this juniper bonsai appears to have been collected from Itoigawa City in Niigata Prefecture, home to many famous juniper bonsai. What makes this piece special are the white trunk that twists and turns as it rises from the root base, the fine branches that have become jin, and finally, the unique texture of the leaves that you find on Itoigawa junipers.

白泥葡萄栗鼠図長方鉢　B-137
作陶地：中国／製作年代：不明
用土中の鉄分含有量が少ないために、焼成した際にわずかに黄色みを帯びた白色となることから、「白泥」と呼ばれる泥物の鉢。本品の胴部前面には、色泥による葡萄と栗鼠の図が描かれている。葡萄と栗鼠は、豊穣を意味する吉祥文様として知られており、様々な器物などに使われている。

White Rectangular Bonsai Pot with a Grapevine and Squirrel Design
Location: China
This type of pot is called hakudei, meaning “white clay”, due to how it turns white with a yellowish tint during the ceramic firing process. This happens due to the small iron content contained within the clay used. A picture of a grapevine and squirrels is depicted on the front of this pot. This vine and squirrel design is said to bring about a bountiful harvest. As such, this type of design is used in a wide variety of ornaments

欅　A-114
樹形：箒づくり／推定樹齢：120年
すっくと立ち上がった幹の先から枝を放射状に仕立てた姿は、「箒（ほうき）づくり」と呼ばれる欅に特徴的な人工樹形である。四方に伸びた根と太幹が安定感を生み出し、こんもりと葉を茂らせた大樹をそのまま盆上に写し取ったような一鉢である。

Japanese Zelkova
Style: Hōki-zukuri (Broom) ／ Estimated Age: 120 Years
The foliage at the top of this straight zelkova tree has been tailored to radiate out in a style of bonsai called hōki-zukuri, or “broom style”. This artificial style of bonsai is often seen in Zelkova trees. A sense of stability is created from its sprawling roots and thick trunk. This, combined with its dense leaves, give off the feel of a large tree in the summer.

西洋鎌柄
バラ科アロニア属の落葉低木。日本の鎌柄（カマツカ）に似ていることから、「セイヨウカマツカ」と呼ばれる。可憐な白い花と、真っ赤に熟す果実が見どころ。この時季は、細い枝に赤い実を散らした姿が、愛らしい印象を与えている。

Red Chokeberry
The red chokeberry is a type of deciduous shrub in the rose family. It resembles the kamatsuka, which is native to Japan, so it is often called the “Western kamatsuka” in Japan. It boasts dainty white flowers and ripe, red berries. At this time of year it gives off a refreshing aura with how it scatters and spreads the faintly colored berries from its thin branches in preparation for autumn.

【A Word from the Artist】
I have spent around 45 years working hard on this old, thin tree that was taken from the mountains(yama-dori), so I have decided to display it at this exhibition. This piece emphasizes the tranquility and atmosphere of a mountain village. I have been quite creative in the process of raising this bonsai to express the vista of a gorgeous white pine and to create the unique shape in its branches.

【作家のことば】
縁あって入手した双幹の五葉松です。最初はかなり弱った状態で、枝もいくつか枯れていましたが、足元からの幹の曲がりの具合がとても繊細で、子気味よく気に入っています。今、その流れを生かしながら育てています。もう数年樹勢がのってくれば、深みを増してくれると思います。

【A Word from the Artist】
I acquired this twin-trunk Japanese white pine through personal connections. It was fairly weak when I first got it; a number of the branches were dead. Despite this, I thought it was charming due to the subtle curves in its trunk. I am utilizing this movement as I am tailoring it. By growing it out for a few more years, I think it will have more depth.

盆栽と共に６２年。盆栽作品の境地は盆栽の心であり、作品の霊魂であり、これこそが私の人生のすべてです。そして我が心の師の教訓「而今（にこん）の山水、古仏の道現成（どうげんじょう）なり」（道元禅師「正法眼蔵」）を得て、これから私が盆栽と向合い、ともに生きる道を発見した想いがします。感謝。

I have spent 62 years together with bonsai. The essence of a bonsai art piece is in the heart of its bonsai, which is also the soul of the piece. This is everything to me. I hope to be able to find a way to continue to walk alongside bonsai, taking advice from a teaching that my dear teacher would say, “these mountains and waters of the present are the expression of the old buddhas” (originally by Zen Master Dōgen). I am filled with gratitude.

【作家のことば】
この樹は20年ほど前に幹が捻転する真柏らしさに魅力を感じて求めました。依頼、持ち崩す寸前のところで小林國雄先生率いる春花園に指導を受け、今に至ります。枝葉が増えても、樹冠へ抜けていく屈曲した動きを維持できるよう、空間を設けながら作ることが課題です。

Estimated Age: 120 Years ／ Pot: Round Cornered Rectangular Pot ／ Companion Piece: Yase-ishi (Mountain Suiseki-Stone)
【A Word from the Artist】
I desired to work on this tree around 20 years ago when I was charmed by its juniper ways through how its trunk twists. Since then, I have been able to salvage it from the brink of ruin through the support of Shunka-en Bonsai Garden, led by Kunio Kobayashi Sensei, which has to the current appearance of the bonsai. I am currently aiming to create more space in this piece by increasing the amount of foliage and branches on the tree while also maintaining its curved shape that bursts out through its canopy.

かつては三幹の松であったのを、双幹に仕立て直して楽しむことにしました。中品の大きさですが、鉢上げしてから歳月を経たことによって景色が大きく感じられる姿になっています。山採りらしい自然の味わいを残している盆栽です。

【A Word from the Artist】
I decided to have fun with this piece, turning it from a sankan (triple-trunk) bonsai into a sokan (twin-trunk) bonsai. While it is only a medium -sized bonsai, it gives off the appearance of a large tree as it has been a long time since it was put into a pot. It still seems to possess a natural feel, as many yamadori (meaning a tree that was taken from the wild) trees do.

明治時代に山採りされた五葉松で、大変に個性的な幹模様をしています。最近ではなかなか見られない、枯淡で芸術的な作品といえるでしょう。全体の大きさと葉性も良く、長年の丹精がうかがえます。

Estimated Age: 200 Years ／ Pot: Shidei Cloud Feet Rectangular Pot ／ Companion Piece: Yabukoji, Japanese Ardisia, Ardisia japonica
【A Word from the Artist】
This Japanese white pine is a yamadori that was taken from the wild during the Meiji period (1868-1912). It has an exceptionally unique shape to its trunk. It has turned into an artistic piece with elegance in its simplicity, which is not something you see with many bonsai these days. The overall size of the tree and the condition of the leaves are good. You can tell many years of blood, sweat, and tears were poured into this piece.

中品ながら、鉢に植えてから歳月を経た盆栽です。今年の夏は厳しい暑さで培養も大変でしたが、秋の紅葉を楽しみにしています。また、根元に力をためた個性的な姿をしているため、冬の寒樹の姿では、一変する世界を感じます。

Japanese Maple　（Noriko Hagiwara）
Estimated Age: 80 Years ／ Pot: Green Glaze Round Pot ／ Companion Piece: Chojubai, Flowering Quince, Chaenomeles japonica ‘Chojubai’
【A Word from the Artist】
It has been several years since it was placed into a pot despite it only being a medium-sized bonsai. The heat this summer was intense so it made it hard to look after, but I am looking forward to seeing its autumn colors. Also, as it has a very unique form with a lot of power towards its root base, during winter it will give off an entirely different impression.
