This piece depicts a stylish man in a yukata holding a Dianthus (pink) flower inside of a striped blue and white porcelain pot. This man seems to be depicted as a potted plant salesman during a temple festival night, as can be seen from the flickering lights of the candles and paper lanterns in the dark background. Furthermore, we can tell that this piece is a yakusha-e (actor print) depicting the kabuki actor Bandō Hikosaburō V as a gardener. We know this from how the rounded crane patterns around the title on the top right is the same as the design of one of the Otowaya (a house name passed down by kabuki actors) guild crests.
