The Japanese title of this piece is Uzuki no Fukamigusa. The word uzuki is April in the lunar calendar while fukamigusa is another name for peony. In this painting, a peony blossoming with red, white, and pink flowers, as well as a large bud can be seen. It has been planted within a huge lapis lazuli glazed pot bearing a dragon cloud design.
