This painting depicts a gorgeously dressed prostitute named Takigawa, from the Yoshiwara red light district, selecting potted plants in front of a shelf full of plants at a night fair. Pine and apricot trees are depicted on top of the shelf. Under the shelf are shears, a pine plant, as well as a pheasant’s eye planted in a rectangular pot. The younger prostitute, or shinzō, acting as Takizawa’s attendant, can be seen holding a tree in her hand.
