This is a picture showing a “Joreishiki”, a popular kind of meeting for women to learn polite manners in the Meiji Period. In this picture the manners for having green tea and traditional sweets are shown. Just outside of the room in the garden a bonsai display has been made and it holds pine, bamboo, plantain and sweetflag pots as well as lotus.
