These are the center and right-hand pieces of a three-piece print based on a scene in the kabuki play Hatsuharu no On-Kotobuki Soga (Soga Brothers New Year Show). A tree seller named Oba no Rokusaburo is depicted in the front. Behind him are a winter peony, an apricot, as well as a pheasant’s eyes. These plants are being carried with two stands called tsuri-dai, which are held up by a piece of bamboo. The plants are being covered to prevent snow from falling on them.
