Furuya-ishi suiseki are found in the mountainous regions in the southwest of Wakayama Prefecture and are known for their vibrant surfaces that contain many delicate crevices. The sharp undulations of this piece bring to mind the image of a craggy chain of mountains. It has veins of quartz running through it, which may make one think of a mountain stream running through a valley. The viewer gets pulled into these deep valleys every time they stare into this stone.
