Kurama-ishi suiseki stones are a type of granite containing lots of iron. They are found in the upper course of the Kurama River in Kyoto. This stone, with its large arc, reminds the viewer of the bow of a ship breaking against the surging waves. Suiseki stones which look like treasure ships are thought to bring good luck and are therefore popular in displays.
