This stone once belonged to Ichiu Katayama. An inspiration to a great many bonsai and suiseki enthusiasts, Katayama founded the Katayama School of Keido in the 1980s, which sought to deepen the practice of displaying bonsai and suiseki stones. This stone’s name, Shun-kin literally translates to meaning “spring is just around the corner”. It was likely chosen by Katayama due to the shape of this stone as it evokes the scene in one’s mind of a field at the foot of the mountains with some snow yet to thaw.
