This type of stone is an example of one of the Seven Kamo Stones, which are stones with a connection to the Kamo River water system. Kurama itokake stones are from the Shizuhara River, a tributary of the Kurama River. It has quartz intertwined throughout along with hard flakes of other stones, giving the surface the appearance like it has strings wrapped all around it. The undulations of the intertwining types of stone are made to resemble the foothills of a mountain range. This piece also has a beautiful yellowish tinge, a distinctive characteristic of kuruma itokake stones.
