Stones such as these which appear like coastal terraces are called dan-ishi in Japanese, meaning plateau stones. From how it spreads out from a peak on the left-hand side to a flat surface on the right, one can get the impression of a sprawling, yet desolate land. It is unsure where this stone was collected, but the dark blue color of its surface gives it an elegant, antique feel.
