This type of pot is called hakudei, meaning “white clay”, due to how it turns white with a yellowish tint during the ceramic firing process. This happens because of the small iron content within the clay. A picture of a grapevine and squirrels is displayed on the front of this pot. This vine and squirrel design is said to bring about a bountiful harvest. As such, this type of design is used in many ornaments.
