The curling leaves of this tree bring to mind a lion’s mane which lead to the naming of this variety of Japanese maple, Shishigashira (meaning lion’s head). A highlight of this tree is in viewing the mountain shaped root base protruding and leading to multiple trunks and branches that move to the leaves creating an overall complex form.
