This bonsai grows upward at a slant, twisting as if to hold on to its shari, white deadwood, all of which gives it a sense of movement. The form of the tree calls to mind a crane spreading out its body in flight, and so this bonsai was named the Tsuru no Mai, or Crane’s Dance.
